Hello World!

I'm finally starting a blog for my darling dolls and other crafty creations!

I've only recently taught myself how to sew, and I'm also self-taught in drawing and creating jewelry. I've had many different passions throughout my life, but none have taken hold of me as strongly as learning to sew dolls!

Firstly, my name is Sarah (aka LuParis) and I'm a mother to a wonderful four-year old son, Luke, who makes up part of my LuParis identity (the "Lu" part is for Luke, obviously, who may or may not be named for Luke Skywalker from Star Wars). Aside from being a mother, I'm an artist, a writer, a gamer, and a horror/sci-fi film nerd.

Some of my favorite video games series are The Legend of Zelda, Final Fantasy, the Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Baldur's Gate, Mortal Kombat, Resident Evil, Harvest Moon, and Animal Crossing (an odd mix here, eh?)

A few of my favorite movie series are Star Wars (of course), Lord of the Rings, the Matrix, Resident Evil, and pretty much anything by Stanley Kubrick.

I have a vast array of favorite movies, books, and games, but the one common thread between all of them is what I consider storytelling worth investing in.

Doll making probably seems like an odd choice for a hobby amongst all these interests, but to me, doll making is simply a chance to create something that tells a story, has its own personality, and is totally unique.

Obviously I wear a lot of hats and juggle a lot of hobbies, but being a full-time stay-at-home mommy is the most important of all these passions, and I try to include my son in everything I do.

My son enjoys the dolls I make (especially their long yarn hair) and this is what gives me the fuel to worker harder, to be even more creative, and to push myself to better my sewing skills and create even more fabulous creations that will put a smile on my son's face.

My doll-crafting journey is just beginning, and for the most part I enjoy working with felt fabric over cotton or muslin. Felt is a versatile fabric that takes a needle like a knife through butter; meaning: it's incredibly satisfying to stitch through! I find that felt is the best introductory medium to use to gain access into the wonderfully complex world of sewing.

But while I mostly use felt, I'm only starting my doll making and sewing journey and I plan to expand my skillset and broaden my horizons over the coming months. My goal for this blog is to chronicle my journey into doll making and pattern making for a year as I hone my craft, all in preparation to open my own Etsy store and perhaps (if dreams really do come true) to attend craft fairs and conventions around the country to sell my lovely dolls and jewelry.

I hope you'll stick along with me as I create dolls and doll patterns, try new techniques, and discover new crafts!
